Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

Tired!

Well, earlier this morning I went to the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 6am mass launch - although I did arrive a bit late, 6:45am! But hey, I didn't miss a thing.

100+ balloons launched this morning into the clear blue sky with very little wind, just a slight breeze so the balloons hung around for a bit, along with a competition going on (involving through something from their balloon down a 5" wide tube to win a £4000 watch), so I got shooting.

I took 196 photos to be precise, and I am now going through them, post-processing, and submitting them. Don't expect to see them all, or anywhere near that, you may see 10, you may see 20, you may see 30! I don't know. Keep an eye out and check them out, it's pretty spectacular.

Which reminds me, part of the 4 day event is 2 "balloon glows" on the evenings where balloons are instructed to glow at certain times to music. Last year I attended this, but without my camera, however I took a photo as I was leaving on my phone. Here it is: [link]

Hey, maybe I'll go to the balloon glow tonight with my camera, get some better shots! We'll see...

Here's some information on the fiesta, which you will also find at the bottom of each photo:

"Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

In 1978, Don Cameron, founder and owner of Cameron Balloons, the world’s major balloon manufacturer (the company designed and built the Breitling Orbiter 3, the first balloon to be flown non-stop around the globe) decided to create a global ballooning event. The idea wasn’t all hot air, and the following year, the first Bristol International Balloon Fiesta took off with 27 balloonists from England, Ireland, Luxembourg and West Germany.

It is now Europe’s biggest hot air balloon festival and this year, from 10-13 August, over 130 balloons and half a million people will attend the 28th Fiesta at Ashton Court. The defining image of the Fiesta comes in the early mornings and evenings on each day of the Fiesta, when the balloons launch in unison and the skies above Bristol explode with colour. Unique and visually spectacular, the sight of more than 130 hot air balloons drifting over the city stops people in their tracks and never fails to raise a smile."
